Dawnwalker Guide
The Blood of Dawnwalker Skills and Vampirism
Coen's growth spans three skill trees — Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism — backed by one shared XP bar and one pool of skill points. This page covers how progression works, what each tree actually does, how Witchcraft and Vampiric Abilities differ in access rules, and how to think about bloodlust and corruption.
01
Three skill trees
Each tree has a clear time-of-day affinity, but they are not locked into one form. A single shared XP bar and a single type of skill point apply across all three.
Swordmastery
Directional swordplay usable day and night. Emphasises precision, timing and mastery of combat fundamentals. New techniques can require finding or buying manuals.
Witchcraft
Daytime magic taught by Anca. Offensive and defensive spells, crowd control, damage-over-time, buffs and debuffs. Manual-gated, like Swordmastery.
Vampirism
Nighttime powers fed by blood. More abilities unlock as corruption rises. Most powers cost health or corruption to use.
One shared bar, one point pool
There is one shared experience bar and one type of skill points to earn. You can use them in all skill trees, and assign them as you see fit. Skill points earned during the day can buy vampire abilities to use at night, and vice versa.
02
XP, skill points, manuals and time
Progression has four ingredients: XP, the skill points it grants, the manuals that gate certain abilities, and the time each unlock costs.
Where XP comes from
Defeating enemies and powerful creatures, completing quests and objectives, discovering hidden locations and secrets, and overcoming special encounters and bosses. There is a single shared XP bar across all three trees.
Skill Points from leveling
Each level grants skill points usable across any tree. There is no per-tree currency.
Manuals and where to find them
Swordmastery manuals are scattered in the world — left by soldiers or bandits — and can be bought from fencers you meet. Witchcraft manuals are best found in ancient ruins or haunted places, or from magic practitioners. Manuals unlock new techniques and combat abilities; passive perks are then upgraded separately.
Time as a cost
Each ability upgrade costs skill points and a slice of in-game time. The Time System page covers how segments are spent; this is the same hourglass mechanic in a different context.
Shrines as a learning location
In the Gameplay Overview Part III demo, perks are learned at restored shrines. A shrine is restored by completing a short objective that returns the shrine's missing heart — the same unlock also turns it into a fast-travel point.
A complete manual-location list, exact per-ability costs and confirmed respec rules are not published.
03
Swordmastery
Swordmastery is Coen's primary combat discipline and works in both forms. The Combat page covers directional inputs, Omni combat and the day/night combat differences in full.
Manuals unlock new techniques and combat abilities; passive perks then support different approaches to swordplay — some players will lean on defence and devastating counterattacks, others on mobility, aggression and relentless pressure. The official Sustained Focus example appears in the skill tree UI as a representative passive, but per-node numbers are not published.
Day and night availabilitySwordmastery works day or night — the developer-side rule is that the sword is always available.
04
Witchcraft
Witchcraft is Coen's daytime magic, taught by Anca. It leans closer to grubby, blood-fuelled hexes than to clean fantasy spellcasting, and unlocks access to sites the vampire form cannot enter.
Witchcraft spells include crowd control and damage-over-time effects, plus buffs and debuffs that can change the flow of combat. Mastering it requires both arcane knowledge and careful investment — the time cost on each new spell is part of the planning.
Anca teaches Latin and Witchcraft
Anca is the local herbalist and the confirmed Witchcraft teacher — she also teaches Coen Latin in the prologue, which is the one confirmed learning-time example. Treat Witchcraft as her discipline, but note that not every witch or witch concept in the setting is Anca.
Crowd control
Hexes that hold or weaken groups of enemies, useful when you want to dictate the pace of a fight.
Damage over time
Sustained effects that chip away at enemies across multiple seconds rather than in a single hit.
Buffs and debuffs
Status effects that tip a fight in your favour or against your enemies — change the maths of the encounter rather than the swing.
05
Vampiric Abilities
Vampiric Abilities are Coen's nighttime toolkit, fed by blood and corruption. They trade vitality for power, and unlock in stages as corruption rises.
Vampiric Abilities demand a sacrifice — each ability costs health, corruption, or both, and the deeper Coen sinks into corruption, the more abilities he can unlock. Shadowstep and a stun move are the named powers shown in the demo.
Shadowstep and named powers
The demo shows Shadowstep — a leap from the shadows that drains an enemy and heals Coen — plus a short stun for weaker foes and Wolf form for traversal. These are the confirmed named powers; the rest of the tree is gated by corruption.
Corruption-gated unlocks
Corruption rises when Coen feeds on blood — more from human blood, less from animals. Higher corruption unlocks more abilities and increases the power on tap, but also brings the risk of losing control around human allies.
06
Bloodlust, feeding and corruption
Bloodlust is the hunger that rises as Coen spends time as a vampire. Feeding manages it but also pushes corruption upward — the two systems are linked, not the same number.
Feeding restores health and tops up the bar
Drinking blood from defeated enemies, vampires, villagers or animals restores health and addresses bloodlust. Animal blood is less efficient; human blood is the most nourishing. There is no immunity while feeding — nearby enemies can still attack.
Sources you can use
Combat encounters, animal kills, and villagers can all feed Coen. Blood vials are mentioned in the official materials as another option.
Corruption and stronger abilities
Every feed raises it. Higher corruption unlocks more Vampiric Abilities and increases their power, but it also raises the risk of Coen losing control — with potential story consequences, including the possible death of an important story character.
Exact corruption thresholds, per-source blood gains and the precise control-loss trigger are not published.
07
Planning your skills
A short editor checklist based on what is confirmed. It does not recommend a best build or specific skill order.
Pick a form, not a tree
Because the XP bar is shared, the practical question is which form you want to lean into for the next stretch: Witchcraft and sword by day, claws and Vampiric Abilities by night, or both.
Match the tree to your play preference
Swordmastery for defence and counterattacks, Witchcraft for control and status effects, Vampirism for high-risk high-power abilities.
Budget skill points and segments together
Each upgrade costs both. Heavy investment in one tree cuts into both budgets; spreading unlocks keeps more options open but slows any single specialisation.
A verified respec, the complete skill cap, and the full node-cost list are not published.
